Our Story
Before relocating from the United States to the Netherlands with our young kids and dog, neither of us had ever been—not even on vacation. We had no idea if we would like it or where in the country we might want to live.
So we planned a scouting trip!
We narrowed our list of possible areas and, during the 5-day trip, I was able to explore 8 different cities.
I got around completely on public transport + bikes to understand what it would be like without a car. I visited libraries, grocery stores, dog parks, bike shops, and schools to get a feel for daily life. I checked out cafes, food halls, bars, and restaurants. I spoke to as many people as possible about what they liked (and didn’t like) about living in the Netherlands.
This trip was one of the best decisions we made before our move, and I would highly recommend it!

Since meeting in Hawaii almost 2 decades ago, we’ve tried to see as much of the world as possible. Life is short, and we believe travel is one of the best ways to spend your time and money!

Our favorite places we’ve visited together are: Indonesia, Sweden, Italy, St. Lucia, Switzerland, Thailand, Costa Rica, Japan, Vietnam, Spain, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.
The top places we want to go next are: Australia, Morocco, France, Egypt, Ireland, Tahiti, Iceland, Tanzania, and the Azores.
We have 3 kids and love showing them new places like Japan, Costa Rica, and Hawaii. We recently relocated to the Netherlands where we’ve been able to dive head-first into Dutch culture.
